AIDA 3* freediver course with Liv Philip

this is an intermediate course allowing you to build on the skills of the AIDA 2* course. It covers the necessary skills and knowledge for a recreational freediver to be able to safely freedive with or without a guideline and to independently participate in freediving activities with similarly experienced buddies

you will learn new skills and gain higher knowledge of safety procedures and techniques for freediving such as free falling, Frenzel equalizing, training tables, the risks of increasing and decreasing pressure and how to minimize these risks. You will learn these skills in Static Apnea, Dynamic Apnea and Constant Weight. Liv also includes a number of extra skills and includes nofins work for those who are interested in this discipline.

the AIDA 3* course consists of 2-3 sessions in the classroom and pool, followed by an open water trip typically lasting 3-4 days:

  • theory work: minimum 6hrs theory work & exam. This covers diving physics (including Dalton’s Law, Boyle’s law, Buoyancy applied to deep diving), physiology (including the cardiovascular system, hyperventilation, BO/SWBO & equalization, the lungs at depth, the Mammalian dive reflex) and training concepts (ethics, how to plan diving sessions safely and the buddy system)
  • pool sessions: minimum of 2 pool sessions. During the pool sessions you will refresh rescue skills, and learn about warm ups, training tables and safety diving for maximum performances, as well as completing maximum performances in static and dynamic
  • open water dives: minimum of 4 dives, which you can do here in the UK or during a training trip abroad. We may ask you to do more dives until you are comfortable with each skill. The emphasis is on giving you an excellent education so that when you gain your qualification you will have developed understanding of the water and what it is to freedive. Open water dives include use of the lanyard, weighting for deep dives, technique work, surfacing & recovery, Frenzel equalisation, freefalling, self-rescue & safety diving, training methods, rescue and maximum performances.

if you meet all the performance requirements, you can finish this course as a certified AIDA 3* freediver. If not, you can come back and train with us at further training sessions until you reach your 3 Star level. Certification is dependent on reaching the target performances required
